Interactive Store Application

Client: Sobeys & Safeway

Year: 2022

In response to a unique need for virtual in-store planning, Maduxx Inc. partnered with Sobeys to develop an advanced interactive application designed to streamline seasonal store updates and visualize product placements. Originally conceived as a VR application for Sobeys’ headquarters, the project was reimagined as a web-based tool that Sobeys’ team members could access remotely on all devices, including VR headsets. This transformation allowed Sobeys to continue visual merchandising and store layout planning safely during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

The interactive application featured a branded, user-friendly interface with dynamic idle screens and an exterior module for an immersive view of each store’s surroundings. Users could explore the entire store in a first-person view with the interior module, walking through aisles, viewing displays, and making adjustments to store elements. The 3D floorplan module provided a comprehensive top-down view, enabling easy adjustments to graphics, layout, and product placements. Seasonal changes and store redesigns were instantly previewed, offering flexibility in adapting to evolving customer preferences.

Each store was meticulously modelled to the provided specifications, incorporating architectural drawings and the latest brand guidelines. This precise digital replication allowed for multiple applications, from planning and design to insights into customer behaviour. The prototype application also included advanced features, such as heat mapping, eye tracking, and product placement analytics, providing Sobeys with deeper insights into customer interactions within the store environment.

The tool’s adaptability and interactivity have transformed it into a long-term asset for Sobeys, streamlining regular seasonal updates and allowing for ongoing layout refinements.
